How do we cue internally?
Ask students to take note of how an exercise affects them. Create Awareness.
“Try this. Notice this. Feel this.”
This is not the same as a “Levels” or giving progressions and regressions. With levels, we are using direct instructions or cues to create the action or result and we as teachers remain in control. With internal cueing, we are asking the students to take a survey of themselves and then work through things a little bit to find out what works for their body.
Internal cueing is similar to levels in that we DO enhance our teaching with options. However, rather than giving exact variations on the exercise, we utilize the senses – asking the students to notice what they are feeling, drawing attention to any compression or excessive tension that is causing strain, and then making their own adjustments with your guidance.
Internal Cueing empowers the student to take control of their workouts.
Internal Cueing improves client retention:
- The student appreciates what you are teaching – you become more valuable and credible because the students have “the a-ha moment” – they feel YOU heard THEM!
- Immediate improvement and results. No waiting for lost pounds or a better shape.
- Students will take these cues and immediately apply them to their everyday movement.
- The mind body training of internal cueing makes fitness more fun, because the student is actively participating in the teaching, not just following along.
THIS IS REAL CHANGE, HAPPENING NOW.
